Extracts from the rind of Garcinia Cambodgia, a fruit native to South East Asia, are used to limit lipogenesis in humans.
The active ingredients of these extracts are hydroxycitric acid, commonly known as alpha hydroxy acid.
The expected benefits are inhibition of lipogenesis in the liver and reduction of energy ingestion. The mechanisms of action have yet to be clearly established.
Hydroxycitric acid is found in a concentrated form in the fruit of only a few plants, including Garcinia cambodgia and Hibiscus subdariffa.
